Open Hardware

Open Reference Designs

Pionix publishes open hardware reference designs for EV chargers on GitHub, built to run the open-source EVerest stack. Open hardware means the designs are yours to study, modify and reuse. Both boards are released under the permissive CERN-OHL-P-2.0 licence, which explicitly covers commercial products.

ChargeBridge Evaluation Board with a ChargeBridge module installed, open hardware EV charging development board

ChargeBridge Evaluation Board

An evaluation board for developing with Pionix ChargeBridge modules, on both the charger and the vehicle side. It runs from a 9 to 30 V supply and talks to a host over Ethernet or USB-C, with UART, CAN and RS485 on board. For charging control it provides three relay drivers with feedback inputs, an integrated shunt for current measurement, DC overvoltage monitoring up to 1200 V per IEC 61851-23:2023, and two PT1000 temperature sensor inputs. The repository holds the complete KiCad project with schematics and layout.

ChargeBridge Satellite AC Board, DIN rail open hardware board for AC charging (3D render)

ChargeBridge Satellite AC Board

A DIN rail reference design for AC charging with the ChargeBridge module. It switches single-phase 230 V or three-phase 400 V at up to 32 A through a four-pole relay with feedback, detects 6 mA DC faults with an integrated RCD module, and brings its own 12 V supply. Two daisy-chainable Ethernet ports let one Linux host running EVerest control a single satellite or a whole row of them. Schematics, layout and a getting started guide ship in the KiCad project.

Open hardware, commercial use included

Both boards are licensed under CERN-OHL-P-2.0, the permissive variant of the CERN Open Hardware Licence. It lets anyone use, modify, manufacture and sell hardware based on these designs, in commercial products as well as research and hobby projects, provided the licence notices stay intact.

The full sources, including KiCad schematics and layout files, live in the PionixPublic organization on GitHub. Fork them, adapt them to your product, or use them as a starting point for a design review with our engineers.
