We donate major parts of BaseCamp into EVerest - Open for Everyone backed by Pionix

At Pionix, we believe the future of EV charging should be built on community, transparency and open standards. That’s why we’ve supported the development of EVerest from the beginning: a flexible, open-source software stack for EV chargers and charging infrastructure.
EVerest was initiated by Pionix founders in 2020 and later donated to the Linux Foundation Energy. Today, it is a highly active community, building and maintaining a modular framework supporting all the major EV standards: OCPP 1.6/2.0.1, ISO 15118‑2/‑20, IEC 61851, DIN SPEC 70121, etc.
Over the past months, we’ve been listening closely to our community and our customers. The message was clear: keep it simple, keep it open, and help extend EVerest. We’re thrilled to announce that BaseCamp, our trusted proprietary software for EV chargers, is now being donated and officially merged into the open-source EVerest project.
Why we are making the leap:
Broader Hardware Compatibility Out of the Box
EVerest will benefit from BaseCamp’s pre‑certified drivers and support for a vast range of devices: power meters, isolation monitors, DC/AC supplies, and popular controllers.
Better, Faster, More Secure
We can deliver faster time‑to‑market with ready‑made development tools, Yocto layers, Enterprise-APIs, over‑the‑air updates (OTA), and key security features like TPM 2.0 support, X.509‑signed updates, and much more.
Unified Vision, Faster Progress, Feature-Richer and Future-Proof
BaseCamp has been built on top of EVerest’s modular open-source architecture with focus on integration speed and ease of use. This move streamlines the development path and accelerates innovation.
What This Means for You:
For Developers & Manufacturers
Access a unified foundation combining BaseCamp’s advantages (hardware drivers, documentation, maintenance, support tools) with EVerest’s flexibility and openness - free, extensible, and highly configurable. We’re simplifying the experience for everyone: The simplified APIs of BaseCamp are now available in EVerest, this accelerates development across the industry. Making it easier to build, maintain and collaborate at scale.

For Your Product Development
From today on, EVerest and Pionix will not only power your charging solutions but also actively support your projects.
We offer custom engineering service powered by open source.
Through custom engineering services, our team will provide guidance, integration support, and tailored development help - so you can move faster, reduce risk, and bring new EV charging products to market sooner. Pionix is available to help companies develop charging solutions and extend EVerest with tailored engineering service - reducing development cycles, shortening time-to-market and enabling more robust, production-grade deployments.
Our engineering services are built on the EVerest open-source stack. Delivering stability, quality, and innovation tailored to your needs.
We see this as the missing piece: open source gives you the freedom to build a charging solution, and our expertise and support help turn it into a product on the market – faster than ever.
Looking ahead
Together with the community, we are preparing a major release that will reflect the integration of BaseCamp into EVerest. It’s also a chance to rethink versioning, maintenance and long-term support. And to shape these mechanics transparently within the open-source development process. The goal: align our shared roadmap with the needs of real-world deployments.
At Pionix, we are doubling down on our commitment to open source and to the people who build with it. By streamlining our approach, removing barriers and making collaboration even easier, we are confident that the EVerest community will grow faster and stronger than ever.
These changes mark a new chapter. And that’s just the beginning. We’ll share more updates this fall. Stay tuned! Let’s keep building the future of openEV charging - together.
