Hubject as the certifying body awarded EVerest the status of the first pre-certified software stack for Plug&Charge - showcasing the benefits of its modular and seamlessly integrated implementation.
The Open Source Charging Stack EVerest initiated by Pionix and hosted by the Linux Foundation Energy, is the foundation to build interoperable, reliable and easy to maintain EV Charging Stations. The Plug&Charge standard, based on ISO 15118, allows for seamless, secure, and automated charging. Once an EV is connected to a compatible charging station, the vehicle and charging station securely exchange payment and authorization information, eliminating the need for RFID cards, mobile apps, or credit cards. Hubject as the world’s largest eRoaming network provides the infrastructure for Plug&Charge as the Root CA and certifies compliant charging stations.
With the growing adoption of EVs worldwide, the challenge for the EV-Charging Industry evolves to offer a reliable and secure charging experience to EV Users.
To achieve this, EV charging stations have to comply with a multitude of regulations and fulfill lots of real-world requirements as well. Getting these all together is no easy task, and often lead to incompatibilities in the field, as many suffering EV users can attest.
For that reason it is all the more important to have solid and reliable certifications that manufacturers and CPOs alike can trust.
Plug&Charge adds a lot of complexity behind the scenes, for the much desirable goal to make the whole charging process simple, secure and reliable for the EV driver.
For Plug&Charge to be successful, EVSEs need a rock-solid, secure, and fully compliant implementation of the ISO 15118 and OCPP protocols. Those alone keep many charging station OEMs busy for years!
But mastering the interoperability between these protocols plus adding secure certificate handling and robust real-world reliability are then even more challenging.
Luckily EVerest now brings all that to the playing field - without any license cost, accessible to all, thanks to open source!
And to Pionix, who commissioned the certification and worked with Hubject on it.
Pionix's commitment to develop EVerest into the leading EV charging software stack thus culminated into EVerest being the first pre-certified software stack by Hubject for Plug&Charge.
“The Plug&Charge EVSE certification process is made significantly faster and seamless for all stakeholders through the use of the pre-certified EVerest stack. Thanks to Pionix, all EVerest users can expect a streamlined certification procedure via our Hubject Testing Facility, the eMobility compliance centre. Additionally, we currently offer a discount when certifying with EVerest,” commented Jürgen Werneke, Head of Research and Development.
And as the first pre-certified software stack, manufacturers will now benefit twice from utilizing it:
- Speeding up the certification is the main benefit for manufacturers. With the help of Pionix, it can be an even smoother and hassle-free experience.
- EVery manufacturer who utilizes EVerest as their main SW stack, will get a substantial discount if they undergo Plug&Charge certification by Hubject
Thanks to Hubject and all involved in this process for the great teamwork and the even better result:
EV charging with EVerest is more open, more reliable and secure, and now even pre-certified for Plug&Charge!
