Enteligent Teams with Pionix to Integrate EVerest for TLCEV DC-Coupled Solar-Powered EVSE

Enteligent has built the world’s first direct DC-coupled solar-powered EV charger, and it runs on EVerest. The California-based company’s TLCEV charger feeds solar power straight into the vehicle, skipping the usual DC-to-AC-to-DC conversion chain. That means charging at up to 25 kW, three times faster than AC Level 2, with energy savings of up to 25 percent. The charger also supports vehicle-to-home and vehicle-to-grid operation.
Enteligent focused its engineering effort on the power electronics that make direct solar charging possible. For the communication stack, covering OCPP 1.6 and 2.0.1, ISO 15118, Plug & Charge and IEC 61851, the company chose EVerest with stabilizations contributed by Pionix. It is the first commercial deployment of EVerest inside a solar-powered EVSE.
“PIONIX and EVerest have made what is typically one of the most difficult parts of developing an EVSE my lowest risk item,” says Sean Burke, CEO and co-founder of Enteligent.
We have written up the full project, from the integration work to the daytime-charging economics, as a case study.
